NTUA Showcases PRecycling Project at 11th Annual Researchers' Night in Athene

On September 27, 2024, the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) hosted in the Patission complex the 11th annual Researchers' Night, offering an interactive dive into the world of research and innovation. The event brought hundreds of visitors, bridging academia closer to the general public and local community through live demonstrations and hands-on activities, with a spotlight on the PRecycling project.

Funded by the European Commission's Horizon Europe Programme, PRecycling aims to produce high-quality recyclates from end-of-life (EoL) thermoplastics by establishing an efficient methodology for sorting, sampling, tracing, recycling, and analysing plastic waste streams. By doing so, PRecycling hopes to reduce the reliance on landfilling and other environmentally harmful waste practices. Through live, interactive demonstrations, NTUA researchers illustrated PRecycling’s potential to consistently yield high-quality recyclates that can be safely repurposed across industries, including home appliances, toys, textiles.

The showcase of PRecycling, drew significant interest as researchers explained the project’s impact on sustainability. Designed to make recycling processes both commercially viable and environmentally sound, PRecycling showed NTUA’s commitment into fostering sustainable solutions that benefit the society more broadly. Attendees witnessed how the advanced methodologies of PRecycling could contribute to a circular economy by reintroducing high-quality recyclates back into supply chains, thus helping reduce plastic waste.

NTUA’s Researchers' Night, serves to inspire, especially among young attendees, demonstrating that scientific research not only tackles pressing challenges but also opens doors to impactful careers.

By spotlighting projects like PRecycling, the event underscored NTUA's role in driving environmentally conscious innovation and stimulate the next generation of researchers dedicated to a sustainable future.
